Early Access

What is Ledyard Early Access?

Ledyard Early Access is a feature available that may allow you to receive ACH deposits, such as payroll, pension, or government benefit payments, up to two (2) business days earlier than the scheduled payment date.

This service is free to all clients who have incoming ACH deposits.

Already have a Ledyard deposit account?

Take advantage of Ledyard Early Access by setting up your Ledyard account to receive your electronic payments.

You'll need your account number and Ledyard's routing number. Log into online banking where you can find these numbers under your account details or call your financial center manager who can help you.

Enjoy the security benefits of direct deposit, too. No longer worry about mailed paychecks being lost or stolen!

Ledyard Early Access - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does Early Access work?

A: When we receive advance notification of an incoming ACH deposit through the ACH network, we may make the funds available before the scheduled payment date. The timing depends on when the payor, such as your employer or benefits provider, submits the payment file.

Q: Does it cost anything to set up Early Access?

A: No. Early Access is an automatic service we offer for free with your Ledyard account enrolled in direct deposit.

Q. Is Early Access guaranteed?

A. No. Early availability of funds is not guaranteed. Whether funds are made available early depends on when we receive payment information from the payor's financial institution and the ACH network, which is outside of our control. The Bank may discontinue early access at any time.

Q. Are all direct deposits eligible for Early Access?

A. No. Not all ACH deposits qualify. Only eligible ACH credit transactions that include advance notification from the originator may be considered for Early Access.

Q. Will my direct deposits always arrive 2 days early?

A. It depends. You might get your direct deposit 2 days earlier, 1 day earlier or on your regularly scheduled payday. Here are some reasons why you might not receive your deposit early:

  • You recently set up direct deposit for the first time.

  • Your deposit type is not eligible, such as a bank-to-bank transfer.

  • There’s a payroll system issue from your payer.

Early direct deposits also depend on timing—your payer must provide payment details on time so the deposit can process early. If your deposit doesn't arrive early, expect it to arrive on your scheduled payday.

Early Access may vary from deposit to deposit. If advance notification is not received, or if the payor submits payment information later than usual, your deposit may be available on the scheduled payment date instead of early.

Q: What if I already have direct deposit with a Ledyard deposit account?

A: If you already have direct deposit set up with your Ledyard account, there’s nothing you need to do for you to get paid early.

Q: What's Not Changing?

A: Our Funds Availability Policy for all other deposit types (checks, cash, wire transfers, etc.) remains unchanged. Please refer to our Funds Availability Policy Disclosure for complete details.

Q: What happens if a deposit I receive early is later returned or reversed?

A: In some cases, we may make ACH funds available in your account before the deposit has fully settled. If the deposit is later returned or reversed by the sender's bank, the funds will be removed from your account. You are responsible for repaying any funds that were made available early and later returned. If this causes your account balance to go below zero, overdraft fees or returned item fees may apply.

Q: What should I do if I think there's an error on my account?

A: We're here to help. If you think there's a mistake on your account, contact us right away so we can review the transaction with you. For the best protection under applicable regulations, please let us know within 60 days of the statement date where the error first appears.

1 If you are a Ledyard personal checking, savings or money market account client who has set up a direct deposit with a payor, you may be able to get that direct deposit up to two days early with Ledyard Early Access. Whether a direct deposit is eligible for Early Access is at our discretion and we cannot guarantee that you will always receive the Early Access service.
